RAM ProMaster owners with the gasoline 3.6L engine often describe the same thing: press the gas, RPMs climb, but the van feels like it can't keep up. It's most noticeable under load, going uphill, or towing a trailer.
The cause is the factory ECU calibration. It's built with margin for the entire model range and market, so it doesn't deliver what the engine is actually capable of.
There's a real difference between a cheap "tune in an evening" and genuine calibration. Some clients have tried plug-in devices and complained about worse fuel economy afterward. These devices don't recalibrate the ECU at all, they only adjust sensor readings. There's an effect, but fuel consumption goes up.
We're an electronic laboratory, not a shop. A ProMaster owner came to us with exactly this complaint: the van felt sluggish, lacking confidence on acceleration. Before any work, we always run a full diagnostic on the module first, documenting its condition before and after. Real calibration means working with the control unit itself, not tricking the sensors.
After lab calibration, the improvement was noticeable. The van became responsive, pulling confidently. The client tested it himself, and the reaction was clear. Video is on our Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DdR-RBciE5M/
